Ethno USA to Take the Stage at Carolina Theatre During Festival Weekend
Ethno USA, an international music exchange program, will bring its collaborative performances to Greensboro Sept. 18-20, during the NC Folk Festival weekend. The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro will host two ticketed concerts during the residency, while an additional performance will take place during the festival.
Ethno USA, founded in 2019, is an 11-day immersive residency where 30 international, young musicians work alongside four experienced mentors to create a dynamic repertoire of traditional music from around the globe. The residency culminates in four public performances, showcasing the one-of-a-kind “Ethnorchestra” — a unique ensemble shaped by musicians, cultures and instruments.
The historic Carolina Theatre of Greensboro will host Ethno USA on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. for an evening concert and a matinee finale the following Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for both performances through this link. NC Folk Festival attendees can watch Ethno USA in the festival’s Folklife Area on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m.
“Ethno USA has been a special part of the NC Folk Festival for years, and we’re excited to partner with them in a new way this season,” said Jodee Ruppel, Executive Director of the NC Folk Festival. “Bringing their performance to the historic Carolina Theatre gives audiences the chance to experience Ethno’s remarkable collaboration and global musical exchange in one of Greensboro’s most beautiful venues.”
In addition to partnering with the NC Folk Festival and the Carolina Theatre, Ethno USA’s Greensboro Residency is made possible by Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) and Folk Alliance International (FAI).
