Our Local Folk Summer Series is back!!! Join us at The Crown on Friday, August 14, for a live concert featuring Justin Golden and Murphy Campbell!
Presented in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, our local folk series highlights local emerging artists who are shaping what folk music looks and sounds like right now.
With roots in the Mississippi Delta, Chicago, and the Piedmont of Virginia, Richmond-based guitarist and songwriter Justin Golden’s origins are deeply vested in the blues. First picking up the guitar at age 19, Golden did what came naturally and let the music flow through him. With an extremely diverse musical palette, Golden aims to bring some new ideas to traditional blues forms.
Murphy Campbell is a talented young singer and banjoist from North Carolina whose music centers on preserving the traditional Appalachian ballads of her ancestors in Yancey and Mitchell counties, as noted by Blue Ridge Public Radio. A rising figure in the folk scene, she was praised in a RootsWorld review for her natural feel on the banjo and her ability to bring a "rooted but refreshing spin" to songs collected over a century ago. She recently raised over $20,000 via Facebook for her upcoming album Revenant
