Our Local Folk Summer Series is back!!! Join us at The Flat Iron on Friday, July 24, for a live concert featuring Rissi Palmer and Mayia Warren!
Note: A ticketing link is coming soon.
Presented in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, our local folk series highlights local emerging artists who are shaping what folk music looks and sounds like right now.
Rissi Palmer, a Durham resident and past Folk Festival performer (2024 & 2020), made history in 2007 with her breakthrough single "Country Girl" from her self-titled debut album, becoming the first Black female country artist to chart on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart in 19 years. Over 17 years later, Rissi’s debut album has earned its place in music history, with SPIN Magazine recognizing it as one of “Ten Essential Albums by Black Artists” in 2024.
Mayia Warreren, one of our 3 finalists for this year’s Not Your Average Folk Contest, is a Gospel artist, worship leader and musician from Raleigh. Her sound is a powerful fusion of Gospel, R&B, Neo Soul, and Jazz, distinguished by her deep, soulful vocals and rich, autobiographical songwriting.
